Whitsunday Sailing Club, Airlie Point

It's time to dust off your pirate costumes, retrieve your eye patch and earring from your treasure chest, sharpen your plastic pirate sword and prepare for the party of the year at the Whitsunday Sailing Club on Saturday 18th August. This year's pirate themed Great Whitsunday Fun Race promises to be the biggest and best for years. A return to the legendary Fun Race of the ‘good old days’!

For racers and members of the public alike we've got a gigantic after party kicking off from 6:00pm with live music, food, frivolity and enough barrels of prized Mount Gay Rum to quench a Pirate's thirst after a fun day on the water - or if you prefer, beer, wine or soft drink.

Cracking Entertainment

The crowning of Miss Figurehead 2012, and the judging of the ever popular Mr Six Pack will take place later in the night, when the little Pirates are asleep in their hammocks, and the bigger Pirates are ready to party hard into the night.

Stomping good Music!

The band line-up for 2012 includes Cleveland Blues, The Royal Artillery and - returning by popular demand - jazz diva “AJ”.

First act is Cleveland Blues, who have played many music festivals, supported acts like The Fumes and The Joe Kings and have received critical acclaim within the industry. Cleveland Blues front man, Cleveland, has created a unique style of dirty rockin’ swamp blues on his selection of resonator guitars, three string cigar box, acoustic Cole Clarke, banjo and electric side violin. Drummer Bambam smashes out the backbone to the bands heartbeat like no man can.

Brisbane's Royal ArtillaryNext up is The Royal Artillery, a heavily blues influenced stoner-rock outfit from Brisbane. The three band members capture the energy and passion of the late 60s with a powerful 90s edge. RAVE magazine says “they work the crowd well, moving fluidly from one song to the next” while Sarah Howells, from Triple J, has described them as “awesome!".

Enjoy the sweet Jazz sounds of Sydney's AJFinally, soul and jazz diva “AJ” will have the pirate crowd rocking by the end of the night like no man can. The sexy, talented and energetic artist is back in Airlie Beach by popular demand and will draw a huge crowd of local supporters just to see her perform one more time.
