The Home Hardware Series of races for offshore yachts was held on February 16 and 17.The races, sponsored by Home Hardware, started on Saturday, with an offshore race around the islands.

Four yachts from Bowen joined the local fleet and enjoyed a moderate breeze for the day. Quickskips, Peter Millar, won the multi hulls and Here's Trouble, Paul Mitchell, won the Division 2 race from Lion, P Daniel, and Tulip, Bernie van't Hof. Fly'n High, Gary Bruce from Bowen, won the Division 3 race from Breakaway, Rob Davis, and another Bowen boat, Meander, Geoff Ingram, took third place.

On Sunday, the yachts had two bay races in a ten to twelve knot breeze, the conditions were ideal. Quickskips again took line honours and won the series in the multihulls, and Here's Trouble did the same for division 2. The minor placings were shared in race 2 with Lion taking second from Twister, Kevin Fogarty, and Rising Farrst, Tim Osborne, placed 2nd in race 3 from Twister. Overall, Rising Farrst place 2nd with Twister 3rd.

The Division 3 fleet had mixed fortunes, with race 2 going to Breakaway, from Meander, with Fly'n High third. Race 3 saw Fly'n High back in first place, from Breakaway and Riff Raff, Ayla Abbot, in third. Overall, Fly'n High took the win from Breakaway and Meander.

A very popular event in the club calendar, thanks go to Home Hardware for their continued support, and the Bowen boats for coming down to join us for the weekend.
