Now an Australia Day tradition, the Dan Kane Memorial race is an out and back reaching race held on Australia Day to honour the life of our much loved and missed Dan Kane.

Unfortunately, the predicted 15 knots of breeze from the south-east did not arrive, so the fifteen yachts set off in a light northerly breeze. They sailed toward Langford Reef, and Quickskips took the lead, followed closely by Twister, Treasure VIII and Lorna Rose Too sailing well in the light breeze.

After an hour and twenty minutes, the Race Officer called all the yachts to race back to the finish, and they all turned and had a lovely sail on a reach beck home in a nice eight knot easterly.

Quickskips was first to finish, with Overdrive hot on her heels, followed by two of the cruising yachts, Kinchega and Celine. Everyone had an enjoyable sail on a perfect summer day.

The prize winners were drawn out of a hat! The only requirement to win was to be in the event.

1st place winner was Overdrive

2nd Place went to Crossbow

3rd place was Twister
