Learn to Sail in Dinghies

The off the beach learn to sail program is run most Sundays inside school terms. Each course lasts approximately 8 - 10 weeks. The program is open to both juniors (9yrs or older) and adults.

Our Green Fleet B is your entry into the sport of sailing. Green Fleet
B is about getting comfortable in a boat and having fun.  A range of fun activities are designed to develop basic skills and understand how sailing works.

You can bring your own boat or hire a good quality Opti Tacker from the club.

Our 16 session program will begin early June 2016.Exact dates to be confirmed. Each session runs from 8:30am-11:00am.

Numbers are strictly limited so book early:

  • 9yrs* - 12yrs: 9 places are available using a club boat
  • 13yrs+: 5 places using club boat

* Sorry we are unable to effectively teach students younger than 9, however we have Corsair class dinghies for hire which will accommodate an entire family.

You need to be able to sail upwind which is the essential skill for sailboat racing. Once you have gained some confidence sailing upwind then you are ready to Join Green Fleet A for some fun and exciting racing close to shore.

You can start by renting a club boat, however it will soon be time to step into your own boat.

A number of sprint series will be conducted throughout the year, programmed to suit participants coming up through the program.

Coached Racing

Participants will enjoy competitive club racing with the added benefit of an elite level coach.  Each week a new topic of race strategy is covered.

Note: We strive to make sailing affordable and inclusive.  The program is run 100% by volunteers.  Parents of at least some of the participants will need to assist.

These are informal fun programs designed around our relaxed tropical lifestyle, we do not offer Official YA log book courses at present.
